QCLNG Trunk Lines Project

In 2013, Dunstans Construction Group was contracted by QGC to install 33kV High Voltage (HV) and Fibre Optic Cables (FOC) underground for the QCLNG Trunklines South Project.

The Project will supply around 8.4 million tonnes of LNG per annum through the development of two LNG trains on Curtis Island. It will continue to be developed over many years and is likely to involve more than 7500 wells and associated gas and water gathering, gas compression and gas and water treatment facilities.

  • The Dunstans project team provided the plant and labour needed to excavate a trench and lay 33kV HV cables and FOCs between the Central Processing Plant, and the field compressor and regional storage stations.
  • Our machine team manufactured in-house machinery with proprietary technology that will lay dual 33KV HV cables and a single FOC simultaneously with Thermal Sand Bedding. Our purpose-built cable-laying trailers have the ability to lay two HV cables at the same time.
  • We tested all HV cable and FOC prior to transporting it to site. Upon installation, we then completed HV jointing and cable testing as per specifications and as laid out in the construction ITP

This was our largest underground HV cable installation project to date. It was delivered with great success, meeting all the QGC’s timelines, as well as rigorous safety and quality standards.
